You're already doing the important things for your skin: wearing sunscreen, drinking water, maybe investing in a good skincare routine. If you're looking for something that works deeper than a cream can reach, without injectables or harsh chemicals, facial acupuncture and medical microneedling offer a natural way to help your skin renew itself.

Caring for the skin through the lens of East Asian Medicine means caring for the whole person. Your face reflects what's happening inside: your sleep, your digestion, your stress, and your circulation. In addition to improvements in skin tone and texture, patients may also enjoy deeper rest, less tension in the jaw and shoulders, and an improved sense of well-being.

Patients at Retreatment Wellness have experienced results including: softer fine lines, firmer and more lifted skin, a brighter and more even complexion, and improved texture from scarring and enlarged pores. Results vary.

This is a peaceful space where each patient receives one-on-one attention. With this added care and focus, we have time to uncover and discover other factors that may be contributing to how your skin is aging, like stress, sleep difficulties, digestion, and hormonal changes - and work on those conditions too! It’s holistic!

Our Millcreek clinic welcomes clients from across Salt Lake City who want a natural, thoughtful approach to healthy, radiant skin.

How Facial Acupuncture May Support Skin Health and Healthy Aging

Much of the research points to the skin's own repair response. Each tiny needle sends a gentle signal that brings fresh blood flow, oxygen, and nutrients to the area and prompts the skin to build new collagen and elastin, the proteins that keep it firm and smooth. Facial acupuncture also appears to help relax the facial muscles we hold tight from habit and stress.

Firmness and elasticity

In a pilot study at Kyung Hee University Hospital in Seoul, women ages 40 to 59 with moderate signs of sun-related aging received five facial acupuncture sessions over three weeks. Measurements of facial elasticity showed significant improvement afterward, and the most common side effect was mild bruising. It was a small study without a comparison group, so we see these results as promising rather than proven.

Collagen and skin renewal

When microneedling is added, the evidence for new collagen is more direct. In a study of multiple microneedling sessions, skin samples taken after treatment showed significant increases in several types of collagen, including newly made collagen. The researchers noted that a series of sessions is usually needed to keep those gains, which is why we plan treatment as a series followed by maintenance.

Expression lines and muscle tension

Researchers believe facial acupuncture may work partly by restoring a healthy resting tone to the muscles of the face, head, and neck. Many people carry tension in the forehead, between the brows, and in the jaw. Softening those habits of tension can ease the creases they leave behind.

Stress, sleep, and the inside-out glow

Stress, poor sleep, and sluggish digestion all show up in the face. In Chinese medicine, a dull complexion, puffiness, dryness, or sagging often points to deeper imbalances in circulation, digestion, or rest. Acupuncture on the body, gentle heat, and cupping are traditional ways to address them, so your skin is nourished from the inside out.

Medical Microneedling with Herbal Medicinal Serums for Advanced Anti-Aging Support & Superior Skin Health

Medical microneedling (also called collagen induction therapy) creates thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin. Your body responds by building fresh collagen and elastin, and those channels allow active ingredients to absorb far more deeply than they would from a topical alone.

At Retreatment Wellness, we pair microneedling with concentrated serums made from botanicals used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Each serum is chosen for your skin's specific needs:

  • Collagen builder (shiitake mushroom, Xiāng Gū) for firmness and fine lines

  • Elastin builder (poria, Fú Líng) for elasticity, especially helpful for oily or congested skin

  • Cellular support (apple mother cells, Píng Guǒ) for overall renewal and vitality

  • Brightening for age spots, sun damage, and melasma

  • Mature skin support (tangerine peel, Chén Pí) for thinner, more delicate skin

  • Under-eye support (seaweed, Hǎi Zǎo) for puffiness and tired-looking eyes

  • Repair and aftercare (gotu kola, Jī Xuě Cǎo) to calm and support healing after treatment

  • Pure hyaluronic acid for deep hydration

What to Expect about Facial Acupuncture & Medical Microneedling

Your first visit begins with a conversation about your skin goals, health history, and details about sleep, stress, and diet. From there, we'll recommend a treatment plan that fits your skin and your schedule.

Facial acupuncture is typically done as a series, often once a week for several weeks, followed by maintenance visits.

Medical microneedling is usually spaced about four weeks apart so collagen has time to build between sessions.

Most patients see a healthy glow soon after treatment, with firmness and texture continuing to improve over the following weeks and months.

We'll review any reasons to wait or adjust treatment, such as pregnancy, active breakouts or skin infections, recent isotretinoin (Accutane) use, or blood-thinning medications, during your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does facial acupuncture hurt? The needles used on the face are extremely fine. Most people feel a light tap or a brief, mild sensation, and many fall asleep during treatment.

What's the difference between facial acupuncture and microneedling? Facial acupuncture uses individual needles placed at specific points to stimulate circulation and collagen while treating the whole body. Microneedling uses a device to create many micro-channels across the skin's surface, which boosts collagen and lets serums absorb deeply. They work beautifully together, and our Deluxe treatment combines both.

How many sessions will I need? It depends on your skin and goals. Most patients see the best results with a series of treatments, followed by regular maintenance. We'll create a plan with you at your first visit.

Is there downtime after microneedling? Skin is usually pink for a day or so, similar to a mild sunburn. Most people return to normal activities the next day. We'll give you clear aftercare instructions.

Can I do this if I already get Botox or fillers? Often, yes. Let us know your treatment history and timing, and we'll plan around it.
